Ummm hello yes I am alive and having thoughts about season 9. I feel like I don’t talk about the new seasons that much bc let’s be real everything post s4 has been shades of crap. But I’m having thoughts so here we go.

Maybe shouldn’t have started with Bloom bc like… I kinda hate it lmao. Or not even hate it, I feel like that implies stronger feelings than I actually have. It just sucks.

The plaid leggings are awful, the skirt could have been cute (even with the ruffle which I don’t love) but then they had to throw glitter on top, and then whatever that atrocity of a jacket/vest is?

The top underneath, the belt, and the jewelry are all fine but that’s like really not saying much lmao.

Oh Stella… I mean like it’s fine? I could totally picture Stella wearing something like this, it’s just kind of bland? I vibe the dress and the turtleneck underneath but @drops-of-moonlights suggested that they should have added a belt and a jacket and I agree.

Also, I feel like, for better or worse, Stella’s fashion was always very over the top and had a lot going on. So to give her the most basic outfit out of all the girls just feels a bit wrong.

The pigtails are cute tho.

(Also are those orange leggings she’s wearing or is the colour on her legs just janky? I do not vibe orange leggings).

I feel like this dress could have been cute in orange which would throw back to the original palette and also breaking up what is a lot of pink across the six girls.

Lmao this is going to be kind of hypocritical considering what I just said about Stella’s but if Stella had too little going on then Flora absolutely has too much going on.

I fucking love her little green jacket and the cut of the dress but I feel like the pattern is a bit much (maybe it should have been just like pink with pale pink flowers on it or something?). Then add in whatever the green and purple section is, and the jewelry, and belt and it’s just like enough!

I do love a big hoop on Flora tho.

Musa’s is definitely one of my faves! It’s very much giving biker chick which is a vibe I love for her. If Riven gets a somewhat similar look they’re going to be a very cute looking couple.

Thank god one of the girls got a palette completely free of pink and I personally love the red coming back.

It’s a really good blend of masculine and feminine fashion and as much as I don’t love the gloves, I do appreciate them as a nod to 2000’s fashion.

Also the short pigtails!!! You guys know I’m a short haired!Musa truther.

Tecna for me is a I love it! with a massive But attached. I love it as long as the artificial/articulated joints are either purely aesthetic or some kind of prosthetic (unlikely but a girl can dream). I’m not here for robot Tecna, it’s a headcanon that has always felt a little too on the nose for me, plus I don’t think it’s a good look for a character who can definitely be read a autistic coded.

I love the skirt and leggings look for Tecna and tbh my only critique is I wish they’d just picked one metallic for the outfit. Like either all that purple-y colour or all silver (I personally really like the silver) but otherwise the outfit is amazing.

Also that hair? 👏🏼🙌🏼😍🔥

I mean, there’s not much for me to say about Layla because she just looks fucking amazing. The bright colours 🔥 The hoodie and skirt 🔥 The braids 🔥 What we can see about her boots 🔥 Like she just looks freaking amazing and almost definitely my favourite look of the six.

With the alleged leak of Winx Club S9, it looks to be heading into full reboot direction and....yeah, ngl, given the last thing we got on S9 confirmed the wizards will be the villains, all I can say is sorry to Roxy for losing her villains to Bloom and sorry to the Trix for getting replaced with the Wizards as the Winx's first villains.

I already ask this question on a northern blog but I'm curious to see you opinion. With the reboot coming do you think they will properly portrayal the girls relationship better? More specifically Sky with Bloom and Riven with Musa.

Depends on what you mean by "properly". I'm gonna assume it means accurate to early season Winx club, and in that case... I'm not sure.

Everything I learned about the next season slash reboot came through osmosis from other tumblr blogs, so I'm probably a little out of the loop already. But what I have heard seems to go into a "return to our roots" direction, which I'm pretty happy with.

The thing is, even if Rainbow seems to want to return to an older demographic, I'm not sure if I trust them to pull it off succesfully. The trend for the past few seasons has been declining-maturity, with more and more "Everything is perfect and everyone is happy" outside of the plot, and if there were argumets, having them be very immature or blown out of proportion. Season 1-3 were not afraid to get messy with their dynamics, but still have it be character consistent and believable. The infamous hat-fight between Riven and Musa comes to mind for example, or the entire second season between Bloom and Sky.

A "better portrayal of their relationships" to me would be to get some conflict back in there that doesn't make me want to tear my hair out. (Except for Musa and Riven, they should def be frustatingly bad at communication.) I have hope, but I'm prepared for disappointment.

on flora's whitewashing: is it possible that flora has been whitewashed in the show/movies with her artwork (illustrations) being fairly consistent with her skin tone, even prior to the reboots/nick era? like in season 1 and the movies iirc

examples: s1e3, and the movies like secret of the lost kingdom? i remember thinking she looked lighter in several scenes of lost kingdom and in that episode of season 1

i wonder if this is something that happened with flora in s1, with it not being or less a problem in s2 and 3, with the movie having a similar skintone to the reboot pictures. i swear that this has happened but i dont really see any discussions on rainbow lighting her skin other than in newer media (where it is more prevalent and more obvious) so if you have any thoughts? maybe also slightly on the merchandise/doll side of things if youre interested?

Rainbow whitewashing characters like Flora and Aisha has absolutely been an issue for a very long time. Unfortunately, a lot of white fans don't notice unless it's more of an extreme example (like Flora being stark white or Aisha looking like Bloom).

In the first three seasons, it's really not seen as a big issue because it's genuinely innocent on their part. Those seasons were hand drawn so every now and then you get a scene where the skin is too light or too dark and doesn't actually make sense with the lighting. Usually, it's an innocent mistake due to multiple artists, not understanding lighting, and things just slipping past them because they're looking at these scenes for hours and they get used to it.

Here are some examples from the first four seasons where their skin is too light even with the lighting happening around them.

And for reference, this is what their normal skin tone is (and what they look like in most scenes).

Again, people don't usually talk about these because it (most likely) wasn't racist or malicious intent from Rainbow. They just didn't understand lighting ajdhglad This actually happens with all of the winx! Just go through some episodes and you'll notice that even the white characters get lightened in ways that don't make sense.

As for the movies, Flora was 100% whitewashed in the first movie.

Flora got the brunt of it in sotlk - she's whitewashed for the entire movie, while Aisha is only whitewashed in certain scenes. There are scenes where both of them look normal and aren't whitewashed so maybe some fans just didn't realize, but if you watch the movie, you'll notice that Flora is whitewashed completely and only looks right when they're in super dark places which,, yikes ahdgalhg

The dolls were also a problem! The whitewashing in the doll lines heavily depended on the manufacturer though so it's very hit or miss.

A lot of the early dolls are perfect or almost perfect but some of them are whitewashed like in these examples. It's the later dolls that have the most whitewashing though so they tend to get more criticism (plus the early dolls are no longer being made).

Most of the other early (s1-s3) merchandising (like the magazines, bags, stickers, etc) didn't whitewash either of them.

I'd say almost all of the promotional art for the first three seasons was consistent and didn't whitewash any of the characters. It's hard to believe now of course but Iginio was initially really excited to make winx diverse (like he intentionally changed Flora to latina instead of white to make it more diverse). Rainbow intentionally whitewashing them really started with the first movie and then snowballed into what we have now. Unfortunately, I think so many white fans are so used to the whitewashing, that they've started to no longer even notice it unless it's super extreme. Like with the recent s9 promo art, most people weren't noticing Flora at all (and not ignoring her, specifically not noticing), and in a lot of fanart, they do not notice unless they're literally white.

Whitewashing has been a big issue in winx for years but I think there are a lot of fans who look at the early seasons with so much love and nostalgia that they don't want to admit it, or they don't understand how lighting affects skin, or their favorite character isn't Flora or Aisha so they just never pay attention to them (blorbo hyperbeam is very real). I'd still say that a lot of the early whitewashing was due to innocent mistakes regarding lighting and manufacturing, but the first movie was extremely on purpose (and so is everything after that).

Did you see the video Rainbow posted on Tik Tok?🥲 I didn't have high hopes for anything but I'm really scared for the plot ever since the mention of social media

In all fairness, mentioning social media or aspects of the internet in general isn’t a new thing for Winx Club. In the OG seasons, it was all about finding stuff on the “Realm Wide Web” or more recently in s8 where they introduced those ridiculous “Winx-mojis.”

My only concern is if they try to make it integral to the storytelling but I’m hoping it’s just a one-off line for Mitzi (insane that she’s making a comeback btw!).

I will give them props on the smoothness of the animation (at least in the first half of the video where it shows Bloom in what’s either her room on Earth or the dorm room —who knows at this point). I’m not saying the style is my favorite, because it’s certainly not. It’s giving Disney ripoff. But it’s the smoothest animation I’ve ever seen come out of that studio, so that will be a nice change of pace.

All in all, I’m reserving full judgments for whenever the trailer gets released so I have more context. I still hate Bloom’s outfit with all my heart though. That’s never going to change.

if he shows up, there might be a chance to see him in the last stage of his evolution! I would really love for that to happen, although, well, according to the information that was given to us along with his 3 stages, it also says that in his last evolution he should return to his land of origin, but what if he doesn't?

So I finally finished (re)watching S6 of Winx Club few days ago, and I gotta admit this was exhausting, I felt like I was wasting my time for the most part. From what I heard, S7 is even worse, so this marks the end of my "live" commenting era on IG.

I shared only a few comments about S1, because I didn't think anyone would really be interested in what I had to say. However, when I was finishing S2 and moving to S3, turned out I attracted quite a big audience, and my followers were eagerly waiting for my comments, which was quite a nice surprise. Since then I made a commitment to write longer remarks and pay attention to details, and all of that was fueled by my audience's feedback. Exchanging remarks with my followers was fun and thought-provoking, especially when we talked about complex issues.

I posted almost 400 stories about S3, almost 300 stories about S4, almost 200 stories about S5, same for S6. I also commented on SOTLK (The Secret of the Lost Kingdom) and MA (Magical Adventure), as well as on two seasons of FATE saga.

This kind of "live" commenting was both entertaining and time-consuming. With every season getting worse and worse than the first three which are, according to many, the best, I decided it's time to bring the commenting activity to an end, because S7 is considered the absolute worse from what I know, and S8 style is something I honestly despise. I have no idea if I will watch World of Winx, and the upcoming S9. Right now I feel I just got bored with the way this show is, so I will now focus on posting art from now on.

I posted some thoughts on particular moments from the show here as well, and some of you responded with your own insight, and I want to thank you for the engagement <3
